Spent some time with Maurice and James designing shirts. Owayo do a nifty 3D design tool that let’s you mock up prospective cycle jerseys. The Cycle to Cannes (I rode the Cycle to Cannes in both 2011 and 2013) team use Owayo for all their team shirts and the quality is top notch. We are hoping to get enough interest to get at least 10 ordered to get the first stage discount.
The big question is which colour? There is no doubt in my mind the Cerise is the most striking however Maurice is pushing for yellow to match his bike (surely he realises the pink will match his eyes, especially on the first and last mornings hehe!). We will go with a majority view however either will be cool.
Felt a lot better than yesterday and first back to back ride of the year. The weather was kinder this morning (seemed a bit warmer) and pace seemed better however just happy was feeling good. Will post a summary of my January training soon against programme so the world can gauge how seriously (or not) I’m taking this.
Back on the bike for the first time in two weeks and it was a shocker of a run! Two weeks ago I did the route in 3hrs 20 mins and today was nearly four hours. Looks like I’m still recuperating from this virus that’s been going around. Glad I came down with this now and not closer to the ride.
Poor old Maurice had to suffer me creeping along behind him for the whole ride – he stepped up and nursed me round but it was painful. Hoping I will regain some of my fitness over the next few weeks. Being sick sucks!
I’m aiming to get out tomorrow too but will ride just a couple of hours.
So the weight loss is going fairly well, I have a chart! Hoping the training starting in earnest will counteract my natural inclination to let the diet drift now I’ve been on it for nearly four months.
Top end of my BMI target is shown as an orange line so about halfway there..
End of an era…The Fall were my favourite band and now he’s gone. Not sure how I feel, I was obsessed with the band in the mid to late eighties and saw them on numerous occasions, ‘Spoilt Victorian Child’ is my ringtone of choice – This Nations Saving Grace was the seminal album of 1985 and a classic still
I found this blog which was written by two italian ladies who rode LeJog with Discover Adventure in 2013…always interesting. Can’t say they were impressed with the British Hotels or with English coffee!
Well no training this week then…came down with some form of bubonic plague on Monday and struggled into work on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday proved too much for me and I came home, looks like I’m going to be laid up for the rest of the week all washed out with a temperature and aching all over.
This means no indoor training this week and has almost certainly knocked Saturdays ride on the head…to be honest the weathers been very challenging this week and just cycling to work Monday Tuesday and Wednesday was hard and although lying in bed Thursday was grim at least I could comfort myself I didn’t have to get up and ride down to the station in a force nine gale.
Discover Adventure have written to us and advised we have 18 bods booked on the trip in June…there is a minimum of 20 for the ride to go ahead so I’m fairly confident the trip’s a flyer – all very exciting! People are now posting on the Facebook page too so getting a sense of who people are through their posts.
Discover Adventure have also linked to a blog of a girl who rode the trip last year, always good to have background. Not sure buying a bike only a month before the trip is something I would recommend but always good to hear of other experiences. DA plainly have a rider good support system in place they use on the ride. I’m now really looking forward to the ride and pretty frustrated I can’t train this week, the fitter you are the easier and more enjoyable it will be. However this week is a washout.
We’ve got to book our accommodation for the night before the start in Penzance (DA will do this for us so score!) and the courier to send the bike back at the end (DA again). We’ve already booked easyJet to fly back from Inverness. Roll on June! Our friend Marion has kindly offered to drive us down at the start and cheer us on over the first few days so a great boost for Maurice and me at the start.
Cold today – easier than last week without the wind but still not getting any faster. I’m now a stone lighter than I was and been training on the indoor turbo trainer twice last week so was disappointing wasn’t quicker….personally I blame Maurice, if he took a go on the front I could latch onto his wheel like some sort of remora fish on a shark…sadly he was out yesterday and during the week (150 miles this week!) so was a bit tired out…..
